Kid's football: Risk, and the fear of fear

Facing fear and taking risks in football develops resilience, improves performance, and builds confidence. Resilience is one of life’s underrated traits.

A parent of every child who plays football may have had the following scenario……

You’re in the car, going to your youngster’s match or maybe a trial or a training session…..You glance across to the passenger seat or maybe see them in your rear-view mirror. They’re sat in silence, indeed, that’s been the case for the majority of the journey. They look petrified.

When asked if they’re okay, they grunt an unconvincing “Yeah”, and that’s about all you’re going to get until you get to your destination.
