"Chris, you should do some online courses"
The number of times I have heard this 😩. Well, I finally got around to recording this. Actually, I wanted to take my time and ensure that what I produced helped the most people.
In fact, from the work I have been doing with players and their families, it has become clear that one area is underdeveloped and, in many ways, it is the most important.
Foundations
I have spoken at length on podcasts about the importance of solid foundations when entering a career in professional football. I use the metaphor of foundations because of what they are used for in buildings:
- Adding strength and longevity;
- Distributing stress over a greater area; and
- Anchoring during stormy weather
This is exactly why we need foundations when we enter a career in elite sport. There will be storms, and we need to be anchored, steadfast, to our foundations. We want to give strength and longevity to our career, life and love of the game of football; we do that by never losing sight of our foundations. We will meet stress, but distributing that stress over a longer period of time (our career) reduces its intensity at one point in time.

Here is a short course that helps you, as a parent, guardian and/or young player, to lay the foundations for your career. The course gives a small introduction to who I am and why I exist, as well as four interlinked videos to develop your foundations.
